Darbar Sahib

Akhand Path Sahib And Kirtan

Akhand Path Sahib is a continuous, uninterrupted recitation of the entire Guru Granth Sahib, conducted as a spiritual ceremony with profound religious significance in Sikhism.

Duration and Timing of Akhand Path Sahib

  • Duration: Akhand Path Sahib typically takes 48 hours to complete, as the reading continues day and night without any breaks. The recitation is conducted in shifts by readers to ensure continuity.
  • Timing: Akhand Path usually starts in the early morning and concludes exactly two days later, at around the same time it began. This completion time is considered auspicious, and the final verses are often read during the morning of the second day, followed by a prayer (Ardas).

Langar:

  • Langar is a crucial part of Akhand Path Sahib, symbolizing the spirit of service and humility. During the 48-hour period, langar is prepared and served to the congregation, providing food to all attendees regardless of background.
  • At the conclusion of the Path, langar is organized as a celebratory and sacred meal, where everyone present shares a meal together in equality and respect.

Key Points:

  1. Continuous Recitation: Akhand Path Sahib is read without any interruptions, emphasizing the importance of spiritual endurance and focus.
  2. Communal Langar: Langar serves as an offering to the entire community and is available throughout the event, culminating in a final langar after the completion of Akhand Path.
  3. Final Prayer and Ardas: Upon completing Akhand Path, a prayer (Ardas) is offered to thank the Divine, followed by the serving of langar to all present.

Akhand Path Sahib reflects devotion and the spirit of unity, where the community gathers, prays, and partakes in langar as one
