Winter Camp 2023

Winter Camp 2023 is a program dedicated to exploring and celebrating Sikh history, Sikh art, and crafts. This camp aims to provide participants, especially the younger generation, with a deeper understanding of Sikh heritage, values, and artistic traditions through interactive learning, hands-on activities, and creative workshops.

Focus Areas of Winter Camp 2023:

  1. Sikh History:
    • Journey Through Sikhism: Participants will explore significant events, figures, and milestones in Sikh history, including the lives and teachings of the Ten Gurus and other influential Sikh leaders.
    • Historical Workshops: These may include storytelling sessions, discussions on battles and sacrifices made for justice and faith, and the legacy of the Sikh Gurus in establishing a unique spiritual and social identity.
    • Exhibitions and Documentaries: Visual aids such as exhibitions, videos, and documentaries will bring history to life, making it more engaging and memorable for participants.
  2. Sikh Art and Craft:
    • Calligraphy and Gurbani Art: Workshops on Sikh calligraphy and Gurbani art will teach participants the traditional forms of artistic expression related to Sikh scripture and poetry.
    • Crafting Sikh Symbols: Activities may include creating art around Sikh symbols, like the Khanda, Ik Onkar, and other religious emblems, through painting, clay modeling, or drawing.
    • Traditional Handicrafts: Participants can learn traditional Sikh crafts, such as phulkari (embroidery) and turban tying. They’ll discover the significance of each craft in Sikh culture and practice their skills.
    • Music and Instruments: Participants might learn about Sikh music and instruments, such as the harmonium and tabla, used in kirtan (devotional singing).
